Helau & Alaaf: German Carnival Celebrates Its Comeback

Carnival, or „Karneval,“ is a beloved cultural tradition in many regions of Germany, characterized by parades, costumes, and street parties. However, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, most Carnival celebrations have been cancelled or severely restricted in the past two years to prevent the spread of the virus.

This year, however, it is business as usual for Carnival, which today celebrates „Rosenmontag“, the day with most parades. Carnivalists are eagerly embracing the carnival season of 2022 with highest interest since 2017 as measured by search volume.
